UNITED NEWS OF INDIA

CHANDIGARH, December 4: The World Bank has committed to Haryana a loan of $600 million, which is the largest single loan committed by the World Bank to any state government in the country.

Haryana is the first state in India as well as in the world to get a loan under World Bank's recently introduced Adaptable Programme Loan (APL) project lending scheme for launching the ambitious Haryana power sector reforms and development programme to improve the availability and quality of power in the state.

Disclosing this here today, Minister of State for Power Attar Singh Saini said a delegation led by state Chief Secretary Ram S Varma had visited the World Bank in Washington for the loan, amounting to $60 million.
