Back to the people -- Give the voters a clear choice

[Details] With the dissolution of the 11th Lok Sabha, the nation has been freed from the odium of political horsetrading if the Congress or the BJP had been allowed to form an alternative government. It was apparent that a government from within the just-dissolved House was not possible given the bad blood that existed among the cantankerous parties.

[Details] The Election Commission should see the call to the polls as a window of opportunity. During its tenure, the United Front Government did discuss electoral reform, but there was no substantive move for legislative action.

[Details] The ill-fated 11th Lok Sabha began its session with a party enjoying the status of a pariah beseeching every member and party to support its government. The Congress cooked its own goose when it staked its future on the removal of the DMK ministers from the Gujral Ministry following which the nation will soon be going to the polling booths for a second time in less than two years.
