Symcox spins out Aussies

Veteran offspinner Pat Symcox flattened Australia with a virtuoso batting and bowling display to lead South Africa to a comprehensive one-day cricket victory at the Sydney Cricket Ground yesterday. He contributed valuable 40-run last-wicket stand with fast bowler Allan Donald, contributing an unbeaten 27 off 32 balls as his side reached 200 off their 50 overs.

Hingis avenges loss to Pierce

Martina Hingis gained revenge for a quarterfinal loss to Mary Pierce at the Chase Championships last month, defeating Pierce 7-6, 6-4, at the start of the first Masters of Champions Tennis Tournament in Frankfurt.
