RBI widens use of ICC abroad

[Details] The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has allowed Indian residents to use international credit cards (ICC) for buying personal articles when travelling abroad. Purchases are, however, limited within the foreign exchange limits prescribed by the RBI for personal use abroad. The RBI has also relaxed the restriction on the issue of ICCs.

CSB leads list of banks with poor capital adequacy ratio

[Details] Even as many weak public sector have managed to reach the 8% capital adequacy ratio (CAR) as stipulated by the Reserve Bank of India, many of the private sector banks are lagging behind their public sector counterparts in this regard. While UCO Bank and Indian Bank are the only two public sector banks left out to achieve the CAR, four private sector banks have very poor CAR level. The Kerala-based Catholic Syrian Bank has the dubious honour of being the bank with the lowest CAR of 2.51%.

Inflation continues downward march

[Details] Annual inflation slid fractionally down by 0.01 percentage points to 3.35 per cent for the week ended November 22. In the reference week, inflation moved to 3.35% from 3.36% in the previous week and 6.76 per cent during the corresponding week last year. The index for "all commodities" (base 1981-82=100) went up during the week to 329.9 (provisional) from 329.6 the last week.
