The Great Scam Shoes Sale: Everything must go

December 9: Around 78,900 pairs of shoes from two companies belonging to former Sheriff Saddrudin Daya, main accused in the multi-crore cobblers scam, will be up for auction on Friday following the order of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on December 1. The order for auction was passed by CMM ML Gilani after Daya made an application. The shoes will be put on sale on an as-is-where-is basis by the auctioneers Bennett and Company at Cama Hall, Bombay Samachar Marg, opposite Lion Gate. Shoes from the following shops owned by Daya are included in the auction. Big Deal: Bhulabhai Desai Road auditorium (14,700 pairs), LT Marg branch (6,500), D N Road branch (2,400). Dawood Shoes: Dadar TT (6,400 pairs), Crawford Market (6,100), Madhav Nagar, Andheri (W) (5,400), D N Road (3,500), S B Singh Road, Colaba (3,800), Fazondar House, Pydhonie (4,900), Prarthana Samaj (4,600), Kirtikar Market, Dadar (3,900), S V Road, Malad (W) (5,000), Goregaon Station Road (2,000), Borivli (W) (1,700), Ghatkopar (W) (4,900) and Station Road, Thana (3,100). Following an order by Bombay High Court, 22 shops of Big Deal and Dawood Shoes were shut while Metro Shoes belonging to Rafiq Tejani, City Walk of Abu Asim Azmi and Nasir Jamal and Milano Shoes of Kishore Signapurkar, all accused in the cobblers scam, were reopened. High Court had directed re-opening of all shops which have been rented while Daya was not directed to restart his shops as the property where the shops stand either belongs to him or his son Sohin who's absconding.
