EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, December 10: A brace from Terence Thomas against Rizvi Sports Club in the play-off brought Father Agnel a berth in the Gulf Oil Senior Division League of Western India Football Association. Fr Agnel won 3-0. Thomas opened in the 15th minute when he grabbed a top-of-the-box chance. His right footer landed in the far corner. The second came three minutes after the breather through Eusebio Mascarenhas when he bisected the Rizvi defence and shot from close range, straight into the roof. Thomas sealed victory for Agnel in the 56th minute when he placed his shot in the far post from the top of the box. It was a three-in-a-row for the Agnel boys who entered the First Division last year after winning the Second Division title a year before. Earlier, Dadar XI won their last play-off against United boys 2-1 to get the second position. Rizvi finished third, Dena Bank fourth, United Boys fifth and and Sea View finished at the bottom of the play-offs. Rizvi boys started well but their five man mid-field unable to find space in Agnel's half to trouble the defender. Chandrakant Kola exhibited good ball control and quickness in stretching the Agnel defence. But his volleys missed the Agnel net. Agnel custodian bought a good save to his left in the 56th minute off Kola's curling crack from 25 yards. Dadar XI defeated United Boys 2-1. Manoj Kanojia got United a lead early in the first half. But very soon they conceded a self goal by Ivan D'Souza which equalised the score for Dadar. Simon D'Souza scored the winner for the Dadar team in the second half which helped the team to second spot and fetched them a berth in the Senior Division.
