State river policy runs into rough waters

[Details] Environmentalists have questioned the classification of State rivers and river basins made by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) in its River Policy. The main contention is that the absence of a thorough study of the present status of the rivers and a of industries that can be allowed in its precincts creates loopholes in the policy.

Kalyan's bitter pill for medical officers

[Details] After imposing a strict ban on private practice, the Uttar Pradesh Government has now come hard on Reserve Duty Medical Officers, (RDMOs). Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, who is taking personal interest in effecting the transfers of RDMOs, has chosen not to pay heed to senior BJP leader Atal Behari Vajpayee who requested him to deal gently with them.
