Tukaram Shinde, a cobbler operating from a footpath at Lakshmi Market eagerly awaits VIP's visits to Kalyan-Dombivli. That's the only time he gets zunkha bhakar at a zunkha bhakar kendra near his stall. The kendras were introduced by the Shiv Sena-BJP government with the sole aim of providing cheap meals to poor people. However, local people have a different story to tell.
| The Jackal goes on trial
"Carlos the jackal," once the world's most hunted man, went on trial for murder yesterday at the Paris law courts. Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, alias Carlos, is being tried for the 1975 killing of two French secret policemen and a Lebanese informer.
