England upset Pak in a thriller, enter final
Manzoor Akhtar made his debut in international cricket yesterday. He looked like winning a match for Pakistan all on his own. The diminutive player first bagged four wickets and then, with Pakistan in trouble, batted like a champion before being run out. Ultimately, after many heart-stopping moments, England, who played with professional competence, managed to win by eight runs.

Anand's fate hangs in balance
Viswanathan Anand is still hanging by a slender thread and Alexander Khalifman held him again in the second game of the third round in a long 49-move affair sending their match into the rapid games. Anand, who just survived in a difficult first game, must now win the rapid to keep his hopes alive.
| Nothing official about it: Simpson
Former Australian captain and coach Bob Simpson yesterday denied having signed up with India to help its 1999 World Cup campaign. Jayant Lele, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced that Simpson had been appointed technical consultant ahead of the World Cup in England. BCCI president Raj Singh Dungarpur said Simpson was expected in India in February.
