They need each other

India and the US have begun a slow but consistent move to come closer to each other in a strategic relationship which is focussed on Asia. In the course of a month, the entire diplomatic applecart has turned turtle, old assumptions have been discarded and new friendships formed.

Pointless pique

Election Commissioner G.V.G. Krishnamurthy invites only opprobrium for his decision to go on leave in protest against Chief Election Commissioner M.S. Gill's "favourable attitude" towards the Shiv Sena. His own attitude to his office does not seem to be particularly favourable.

Flying to nowhere

Whoever was given the task of finalising the terms of reference of the Kelkar Committee on Air India must have gone about it with supreme ease. As published, they are incredibly the same as those given to the committee on Indian Airlines constituted nearly a year and a half ago.
