FIIs on buying spree

MUMBAI, DEC 23: Select scrips, led by ITC and SBI, moved up on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Tuesday as foreign institutional investors (FIIs) continued their buying spree. The Sensex gained 25 points. After a better spell, few scrips reacted at the end on profit taking coupled with selling pressure by the domestic financial institutions. The BSE Sensitive index moved up to an intra-day high of 3676.76 but later reacted partially as share prices encountered selling pressure to close at 3641.11. The BSE-100 moved up by 9.42 points to 1577.22 from previous close of 1568.20. Brokers said the FIIs have reportedly made small buying in L&T, Tata Tea, MTNL, ITC, BSES and others. However, FIs and UTI continued to book profits by selling Hindustan Lever, Castrol, Colgate and others. ITC remained the most active scrip with a turnover of Rs 270.59 crore, of the total volume of business of Rs 826.59 crore followed by SBI Rs 78.62 crore, Tata Tea Rs 75.22 crore and Castrol Rs 63.72 crore. ITC firmed up further by Rs 10 to Rs 620, Reliance gained a rupee at Rs 164, SBI Rs 3.25 at 234.50, Tata Steel Rs 2.50 at 132.50 and Tata Tea Rs 2.50 at 407 on fresh buying. On the National Stock Exchange , the NSE-50 index opened at 1051.45, touched the day's high of 1066.25 before closing at 1054.8, showing a net gain of 3.40 points. The Defty index gained 3.80 points to 934.15. The Midcap index dropped by 7.50 points to 1153.25. The total turnover reported during the day was Rs 1498.35 crore.
