[Details] Viswanathan Anand of India reached the final of the qualifying round of the Fide World Chess Championship when he overcame Boris Gelfand of Belarus in 37 moves in Game Two of the sixth round play at Groningen yesterday. The win gave Anand a 1.5-0.5 result.

Aussies beat India, in final

[Details] Australia yesterday defeated India by 19 runs to reach the final of the fifth Womens World Cup final. Electing to field, Indian bowlers restricted Australia to 123 in a match that was reduced to 32 overs after almost two-and-a-half hours were lost due to the soggy outfield. The Indian eves, however, managed to score only 104 runs in their alloted 30 overs.
