PM foresees another coalition after polls
The country is heading for another coalition after the polls, Prime Minister I K Gujral predicted yesterday. "I am hopeful that the post-poll coalition will be formed by parties that believe in secularism and unity of India," he said.
Kalmadi in a dilemma as BJP talks tough
Having left the Congress behind him, former Union Minister Suresh Kalmadi seems to be facing a serious political dilemma and has very little time to choose his course of action. While it was given to believe until recently that the BJP would support him even as an independent, the party's seat sharing agreement with Shiv Sena, announced in Mumbai on Saturday, has tilted the balance.

UF will be back
Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav today asserted that the United Front would form the government at the Centre after the ensuing general elections. The tally of the United Front would go up by 60 to 70 seats while BJP would not be able to win even 100 seats, he told a news conference here.
BJP unscrupulous
The Congress today criticised the BJP for, what it said, adopting ``unscrupulous methods and double standards'' to grab power and said it alone can provide a stable government at the Centre. Addressing a rally here, top Congress leaders, including its vice-president Jitendra Prasada, Sharad Pawar and Ghulam Nabi Azad, lashed out at the United Front saying its constituents have failed to contain communal forces and allowed the BJP to gain strength by dividing secular votes.

Almost at the twelfth hour, the tantalising prospect of cross voting on the unexpected side of the divide appears to be emerging with reports that Shiv Sena's Sudhir Joshi may not clean up 76 winning votes at Monday's elections to the Maharashtra Legislative Council from the local self-government constituencies.
