Meet for the handicapped

  • Over 1,000 handicapped school children will participate in the ninth annual open meeting for the handicapped, organised by the Rotary Club of Bombay Uptown, to be held on Saturday at the Garden for Handicapped at Wadala. Film star and MP Raj Babbar will be the chief guest.

  • BEST Additional General Manager, Madhav Shanbag, retired after 34 years of service on Thursday. He was felicitated by general manager Vinay Mohan Lal on his last day of service.

    Shanbag joined the BEST in 1964, and initially worked in the transportation engineering department. After being promoted to various posts in different departments, he was appointed Additional General Manager on June 24, 1991. He also worked as the acting general manager for some time. Praising Shanbag for his sincere work, Lal said he had the ability to accept new ideas and effect necessary changes in the daily working systems.

    Sugar quota

  • The state government has decided to give 425 gms sugar per person (child as well as adult) at the rate of Rs 9.05 per kg to ration card holders of Mumbai and Thane. It can be collected twice a month, fortnightly or once in a month, said an official statement.
