Kapoor gains on Bikram's lapses

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Jan 2: Overnight leader Bikram Singh of Delhi had a poor round of 81 which saw him land in the second place in the HDFC Bank's Western India Juniors and Sub-juniors Golf Championship at the Bombay Presidency golf Club, today. Bikram's loss proved to be his city-mate Shiv Kapoor's gain as the latter snatched the lead with a round of 76 and an aggregate of 225 after 54 holes of the 72-hole event.

After starting off with a birdie Bikram Singh, who had earlier rounds of 74 and 74, fumbled. He had a double-bogey on the 8th among the five shots he dropped on the way out, and capped his dismal showing with a triple bogey on the 18th after losing four strokes on the way back.

He is now four strokes behind Shiv Kapoor, who shot just one birdie and there was little in his play to indicate that his game would pick up, getting three bogeys on the first nine and two both before and after he picked up a birdie on the 16th.

The day's best performance was turned in by Kapil Dev sponsored Suleman Ali of Delhi. He began unhappily with two bogeys and just as he seemed to have steadied his game with six pars in a row, Suleman went three over on the 9th to go out in 40.

He could not be distinguished as the same player on the return journey, shooting birdies on the 10th and 16th and faltering only once on the 17th. His 230 aggregate keeps him in third place.
