Agriculture dept stirA state wide agitation of the employees union of the Maharashtra State agriculture services department will be held on January 3 for their various demands. According to a press release issued by the union, the demands are pending for the last ten to twelve years and the government has not bothered to consider them. The major demands include revision of pay scales for agriculture assistants, appointment of agriculture graduates to the posts of supervisors, to declare services of agriculture department as "technical" and provide gazetted officers grade to the supervisors.
The union has given a call for holding morchas and dharnas at the office of agriculture commissionerates all over the State.
Sassoon workers protest
About 40 workers at the Sassoon General Hospital on Wednesday faced police action when they protested against the decision to regularise services of three employees who were reportedly not in the seniority list. The agitating workers
belonged to the Sarva Mazdoor Sangh. The Sangh has resolved to intensify their agitation and move the court against the decision, a press release said.
Womens' conference
The South-West regional conference of the Rashtriya Mahila Sansthan was on Wednesday inaugurated by Shobhana Ranade at the Agakhan Palace. The conference resolved to take up programmes in association with UNICEF in the next two years.
Relevance of quality stressed
The need and relevance of quality circles to usher in an improvement oriented work-culture and quality of work-life in general was stressed in the technical paper reading programme organised by the Maharashtra chapter here of the Quality Circle Forum of India. Prof S D Mahajan from Textile and Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji, who presented a paper on "Converting human resource into a resourceful asset," bagged the first prize. Rashmi Hebalkar, lecturer S P College and Gajanan Ambade, a QC member from Telco were awarded merit prizes.
