CAT quashes extension for Cabinet SecyNEW DELHI: The Central Administrative Tribunal today struck down the three-month extension given to Cabinet Secretary T S R Subramanian. At the same time, it vacated its stay order and allowed the Government to reappoint him through a fresh order. Although it is expected that Subramanian will be back as Cabinet Secretary, a government spokesman today reacted cautiously to the CAT order and refused to confirm this.

NEW DELHI: Board examinations for class X and XII conducted by the CBSE will begin from March 16. A decision to this effect was taken by CBSE today. The Election Commission had earlier directed the CBSE and ICSE to keep teachers and school buildings free for election purposes. The Lok Sabha poll process will be completed by March 15.

CHENNAI: Mumbai based Tamil don Surla, arrested in connection with the sensational 1992 acid attack on former IAS officer, V S Chandralekha, today escaped from a government
hospital where he was undergoing treatment for AIDS. Police said that the Mumbai history sheeter gave the slip after being taken to a toilet in the AIDS unit of the tuberculosis sanitorium at suburban Tambaram around noon today.

GUWAHATI: ULFA general secretary Anup Chetia was arrested today in Dhaka, according to official sources here. Stating that details of the arrest were awaited, sources said, Interpol had earlier been alerted to arrest Chetia.
The banned militant outfit's general secretary was hiding outside the country for several years.
Missing items
NEW DELHI: Several priceless objects of the Rashtrapati Bhavan museum were missing and the President has directed shifting of the remaining items to the Bhavan to ensure tight security. A detailed stock-taking undertaken after the museum keeper reported about the missing objects revealed that several display items of varying value were untraceable, a statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan said tonight.

IMPHAL: At least 13 army personnel were killed and six seriously injured when their convoy was ambushed by hill militants at Shanting village in Churachandpur district today, official sources said.
