Man drags wife's lover to cops, gets arrested

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, January 2: A Nagpada resident dragged his wife's lover to the police. Instead he landed up in custody.

Akhtar Mohammed Nawab Sayed (39) was accused of kidnapping Salles David (27), a unit manager at Singer Machine Company at D N Road. According to the police Salles had an affair with Zeenat when she worked at the Singer company and quit her job after marrying Akhtar. However, Salles allegedly continued phoning Zeenat and harass her using foul language.

To put an end to the continued harassment once for all, on the evening of December 30, 1997, accompanied by three associates Akhtar barged into Singer company's office and beat up Salles. The unit manager was then bundled into a taxi and taken to an undisclosed location.

Meanwhile, David's colleague Rajendra Jaisingh Sakpal lodged a complaint of kidnapping at the Azad Maidan police station.

A day later, Akthar brought David to Pydhonie police station to lodge a complaint on harassment of his wife against the Singer official. He narrated the entire incident to the inspector on duty who directed Akthar to go to Azad Maidan police station since the area of offence falls under their jurisdiction.

However, before Akhtar could proceed any further a team from the Azad Maidan police station arrived to arrest Akthar on charges of kidnapping.

The police, however, have not been able to arrest Akhtar's associates Mohammed Khalid, Mumtaz Ali Hasan and Samsher who are absconding.
