Asian crisis may continue

AGENCIES
CHICAGO, JAN 4: Financial turbulence in Asia is likely to continue for some time before markets eventually settle down, the International Monetary Fund's chief economist said on Saturday night.

``It takes a while for things to settle. Hopefully we will in the initial weeks of this year begin to see some evidence that the amplitude of these fluctuations is beginning to come down," Michael Mussa told reporters during an economic conference here.

``But there is going to be turbulence for some time,'' he said in the conference. Asia has been hit by a financial crisis that roiled markets throughout the region and in much of the rest of the world.
