Theresians' three floor Rizvi

JANUARY 4: A three-goal blitz in the first half by Theresians paved way for a 3-1 victory over Rizvi in the Rizvi Fourth Division HAM hockey league match at St Andrew's High School Ground, Bandra, today.

Gavin Aguiar, Lyall Pais and Sheldon Fernandes slammed in a goal each before Lawrence Noronha scored a consolation for Rizvi at the fag end.

Four goals by Dawson Gomes spurred Orlem Sports Council to a runaway 9-0 win over Royal Sports in another match.

Roshan Demello and Franklyn Fernandes with two apiece along with Jude D'Souza who added one, joined in the revelry.

In the day's other match, Selwyn Pereira scored both in Chodankar's 2-0 win over St Michael's Recreation.

Willingdon fight back

Willingdon Caltholic Gymkhana came from behind to hold Young Challengers 2-2 in a BHA First Division league hockey match at the Mahindra Stadium, today.Willingdon took the pitch with just eight players in the first half and defended stoutly, conceding just a goal before the change of ends.

Deepak Pardeshi scored for Young Challengers in the ninth minute but Willingdon gained in stature after attaining their full complement of 11 players.

Their comeback, however, materialised only after Vijendra Aayre put Young Challengers further ahead in the 43rd minute.

The pressure that Willingdon exerted paid.

A splendid display by their young player of promise Jayesh Jadhav laid the foundation for Willingdon's comeback.

The youngster paved way for both goals could well have entered the scoresheet but narrowly failed to score from two fine deflections before paving way for Willingdon's goals.

Santosh Musele (52nd minute) and Troy D'Mello (56th) scored to restore parity for Willingdon.
