RBI governor to be felicitated

  • Former RBI governor Dr C Rangarajan will be felicitated as "Finance Man of the Decade" by the finance industry. Said a release from the Bombay Management Association, several organisations, including the Association of Merchant Bankers of India and Indian Institute for Technology and Management, will honour Rangarajan for his contribution to the Indian economy at the fourth industry-wide convention on financial services to be held on January 16 and 17.

    Road safety week

  • On the occasion of the ongoing road safety week, the governing council of the Indian Roads and Transport Development Association has decided to pressurise the government to undertake a definite cost effective programme for improving road safety standards. The programme will include monitoring of driving quality, maintainence of carriageways and carriages, mounting a campaign for road signs, marking and discipline, investigating major road accidents and improving road safety.

  • The People's Art Centre is organising Pongal celebrations on January 14 with a performance by Guinness record holder Lakshman Sruthi at Rang Bhavan, Dhobitalao, with a 50-member orchestra. Sruthi broke the Guinness record for non stop light musical recitation with his 36-hour effort in Chennai in 1994.

    Cashier looted

  • Four persons looted Rs 8.60 lakh from a cashier of the Bombay Suburban Electricity Supply (BSES) at Bhayandar this afternoon. Police said the cashier was on his way to deposit BSES money when four persons armed with choppers and revolvers came in a white-coloured Maruti 800 (MH- 01- 6053) and fled with the bag containing money. A case of robbery has been registered.
