Naval workers' stir For the second time in as many months, hundreds of employees of the Naval Dockyard staged a demonstration at Lion's Gate on Thursday. The workers, under the aegis of the Indian Naval Employees Union, protested the dockyard management's apathy towards their problems like ex-apprentices and other workers getting official leave of a year for further studies and stoppage of off-loading of dockyard jobs to private companies. M Gopal Rao, new general secretary of the union, M N Vaidya, outgoing secretary and M Y Koyande, the president of the union spoke on the occasion.Tinkle's 18th anniversary Tinkle, the children's comic, is celebrating its 18th anniversary on Thursday, January 9 at Patkar Hall, New Marine Lines between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm. Children from over 60 schools will participate in various competitions. Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle contests will also be organised.Music contest The Mysore Sangeeta Vidyalaya, Dombivli has
organised a Santawani Music Competition on January 18 at Brahman Sabha Hall, Dombivli at 3.30 pm. Car mela ANZ Grindlays Bank is organising a car exchange mela and test drive for cars at its Breach Candy branch until Saturday. The mela facilitates purchase by allowing customers to drive in with their old cars which will be evaluated on the spot and used as down payment for new cars.
