NEW DELHI, January 9: The Delhi police came in for widespread criticism after the bomb blast near the police headquarters today, with Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma once again pressing for the resignation of the Commissioner of Police, T.R. Kakkar.Referring to the possibility of the appointment of a new police commissioner, Sahib Singh said, ``I am confident that this time round there will be some change.''
``I talked to the Union Home Minister Inderjit Gupta on the telephone as he is in Calcutta. He agreed with me that there should be a change in the top slot of Delhi Police,'' he said.
Soon after the blast, reiterating his demand for bringing the police under the Delhi Government, Sahib Singh said, ``The police is not accountable. Though I am the elected representative of the people, I am never told what is happening in the city, I an never taken into confidence on law and order.''
He added, ``The police should have removed pavement encroachments. But that was never done because of the vested
interests involved.''
