Voters' list controversy continues to linger

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
DERA BASSI, January 9: The controversy over the supplementary list of voters for the Dera Bassi council elections slated for January 12 continued to persist with the Punjab State Election Commission failing to resolve the issue for the third day today.

An election official supervising the inquiry into the allegations of irregularities in the compilation of the list, said that the report had already been submitted to Election Office in Chandigarh.

He said that final decision to this effect would be taking tomorrow after verifying the fact. ``The legal advise of the legal expert would also be taken, if it is required,'' he added.

The inquiry was marked by the Punjab State Election Commission on Wednesday on a presentation made by the Congress candidates and their sympathisers.

There are 37 candidates including 16 women candidates in the fray for the 13-member house of the Dera Bassi council for which the campaigning has gained momentum.
