Ultras destroy poll material, kidnap officials

IMPHAL, Jan 18: Suspected NSCN-IM activists set fire to poll materials including electoral rolls in two subdivisions of Manipur's Tamenglong district, kidnapped top officials and released them after threatening them with dire consequences if they went ahead to hold the election in the district.Official sources today said the activists entered the office of the Tameilong deputy commissioner Moses Chellai, on Thursday at about 2000 hours when he was holding an election meeting with other government officials. The sub divisional officer (SDO) of Tamenglong R H Golmei, and that of Tousem, Michael Huppi, were also present in the meeting, The armed militants set ablaze election materials including poll rolls before taking the three officials with them.
