MUMBAI, January 18: Pune's Jaideep Patwardhan pipped Asia Pacific Champion -- Chandigarh's Harmeet Kahlon -- in sudden-death to clinch the four day Classic Stripes Western India Amateur golf championship at the par-70 BPGC course today.Both Patwardhan and Kahlon were tied at an aggregate of 291 at the end of the 72-hole event. In the tie-break, Kahlon conceded the game when he missed a birdie on the par-5, 73rd hole. Patwardhan was on the verge of a birdie then with the ball just two feet away.
Leader for the last two day's, B Gurunath (Chennai), had a horrendous round of 81 today which put his aggregate on 293.
Kahlon had a round of 71, four-strokes better than Patwardhan (75). In fact, the match would not have gone to the tie-break had Patwardhan got the eagle on the 18th. His putt, from twenty feet, came to rest just three feet away from the hole, not before rolling over the edge.
Final scores (after 72-holes): 291- Jaideep Patwardhan (74+70+72+75), Harmeet Kahlon (78+70+72+71); 293- B
Gurunath (72+70+70+81); 294- Digvijay Singh (68+76+76+74); 296- Sheeraz Kalra (76+74+73+73); 299- Amit Luthra (76+74+74+75).
CAPT HARSH wins: Overnight leader Captain Kailash Harsh won the Western India Seniors golf championship. Harsh came home with a round of 81 to aggregate 160 at the end of the 32-hole event. Ranbir Sidhu, with 168, (80+88) was the runner-up.
