Victory in final

MUMBAI, January 18: Victory Cricket Club will meet National Cricket Club in the final of the Police Shield Invitation cricket tournament, sponsored by Jayantilal Khandwala & Sons and Khandwala Securities.

Victory defeated Islam Gymkhana by eight wickets at the Wankhede Stadium, while National beat Cricket Club of India by seven runs at the Brabourne Stadium, today. A 127-run stand for the second wicket between Mahesh Karanjkar and Maroof Khan was instrumental in Victory's win. Karanjkar's scored 74 (12x4, 134 b) while Khan hit an unbeaten 63 (8x4, 113b).

Brief Scores: Islam Gymkhana 148 in 48 overs (Zahid Khan 44; V Mahadik 3-43) lost to Victory 149-2 in 46.2 overs (M Karanjkar 74, Maroof Khan 63 n.o.).

National 268-8 in 70 overs (Sunil More 68; Dushyant Patel 3-71) bt CCI 261-8 in 70 overs (Rajesh Sanghi 63, Abhijit Kale 83; Manish Patel 3-85, S Mahadkar 4-84).

Sabaa adjudged best

United Athletes' Sabaa Khan, the under-16 girls champion, bagged the Victor D'Mello Trophy, the symbol of the most promising athlete in the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana meet yesterday.

Individual champions: Boys under-20: Jitendra Singh (Anshakti Nagar Club) 11 pts; U-18: Abhay Palshetkar (Tract Trotters) 11; U-16: Adrian Mascarenhas (St Mary's ISC) 15; U-14: Benze Pereira (St Mary's ISC) 10; U-12: Vikas Sharma (St Elias School) 15; U-10: Hollis D'Souza (OL Fatima) and Asad Shaikh (Hill Grange School) 6 each; U-8: Dhiraj Mishra (Udayachal) 10.

Girls U-20: Arti Malekar (Prabhodan) 8; U-18: Tara Acharya (Top Gear) 13; U-16: Sabaa Khan (United Athletes) 20; U-14: Anita Lobo (United Athletes) 13; U-12: Shimona D'Costa (United Athletes) 15; U-10: Purva Kanvinde (United Athletes) 10; U-8: Prajna Poojari (Duruelo Convent) and Rabfa K (Lokhandwala FS) 5 each.
