Ex-defence personnel decide to back colleagues in polls

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, January 18: The North Zone Ex-defence Personnel Sangathan will support all ex-servicemen contesting the forthcoming elections in the region, irrespective of their party affiliations.

Disclosing this here, the chairman of the sangathan, Air Marshal Randhir Singh (retd) said that the issue of support to be extended to the candidates in the constituencies where none from the services was in the fray, would be taken up during the sangathan's next meeting.

The sangathan, which has its branches in the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan, has a considerable membership.

He said that the decision to back the ex-servicemen during the elections was hinged on the hope that if elected, they would work for the cause of the retired Armed Forces personnel.

Air Marshal Randhir Singh regretted that the MPs elected earlier from the Chandigarh constituency had not fulfilled their election promise on resolving ex-servicemen's problems.
