SC orders ATR in forest land scam
The Supreme Court has directed the Karnataka Government to file an action taken report (ATR) within two weeks on the encroachment of 3,309 acres of reserve forest land in Chikmaglur district. Pakistan authorities have let loose repression against the people in Gilgit, Baltistan and Hunza. Khan Naji, a senior leader from the areas occupied by Pakistan urged the United Nations to press upon Pakistan to stop repression against the people in this region and call for early elections under its auspices.

An influential Buddhist priest, Rambukewelle Sri Vipasi, the head priest of the Malwatte chapter of the Siam sect, has fired a shot into Sri lanka's Golden Jubilee celebrations by deciding to boycott the official ceremony in protest against the participation of Prince Charles as chief guest.
Smoke from Betul firing may engulf polls
The death toll in the police firing on agitating farmers in Multai in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh has gone up to 18 with one person succumbing to injuries yesterday. The police firing incident is likely to develop into a major confrontation between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP in the state with the BJP demanding that state Chief Minister Digvijay Singh own moral responsibility for the firing.
