India pack a world record to claim Cup in Dhaka
India yesterday scored a record victory over Pakistan in the third final of the three-nation Independence Cup in Dhaka to lift the winners trophy. Set to score an almost impossible 315 to win in 48 overs, India achieved the target off the penultimate ball. India's victory was achieved with the help of invaluable knocks from opener Ganguly and Robin Singh.

De Silva, Ranatunga script a thriller
Sri lanka swept aside Zimbabwe to post a five-wicket win and clinch the series 2-0 before tea on the final day of the second Test in Colombo yesterday. The credit for the win was shared by the side's senior-most players, Ranatunga and De Silva, who shared an unbroken fifth wicket partnership of 189 runs with De Silva scoring an unbeaten 143.

South Africa defeated Australia yesterday in their last league encounter of the ongoing triangular series in Australia. Australia, who were bowled out for 165, lost as the South Africans rattled up the required runs in just the 29th over, losing just three wickets on the way to victory.

Tennis' teen stars set to make it a grand slam
The new teen stars of tennis, led by sisters Venus and Serena Williams, are set to dominate the first day of the Australian Open today. Centre court has been reserved for the Williams girls and 16-year-old Australian Lleyton Hewitt who stunned the tennis world by winning the Australian Hardcourt Championship this month. The trio get equal billing with men's number one Pete Sampras and home favourite Mark Philippoiussis.
