CBI cries foul as LoC files go missing
The CBI probe into the Letters of Credit (LoC) scam involving Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta has now taken another twist. The CBI has alleged that key documents, vital to the investigation, have disappeared from the state secretariat. Prime among the missing documents is one listing all beneficiaries who received bank drafts worth Rs 26 lakhs from Mahanta, with the payment being allegedly made by Rajen Bora, the main accused in the case.

No more missiles for Iran: China
The world took a giant step towards attaining global peace yesterday, thanks to the Chinese government. The Chinese officials yesterday made an assurance to the United States that it has halted transfers of anti-ship cruise missiles to Iran. China has also stopped the transfer of missile upgradation technology to Iran.

US adamant as Butler meets Aziz afresh
Chief UN weapons inspector Richard Butler started a second day of talks with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz in Baghdad yesterday. With the US delegation still being adamant on receiving full and unconditional access for weapons inspectors and Iraq unlikely to budge from its stance, the talks, however, seem destined to be deadlocked.

Prince Charles' visit to Sri Lanka next month as chief guest at the golden jubilee celebrations appeared to be plunging deeper into controversy. The country's main opposition party on Monday admonished the government for inviting him stating that they would have preferred to have their President as chief guest on the occasion.
