MUMBAI, January 22: The Bombay High Court has directed the warring factions of the United Republican Party of India (RPI) to resolve their leadership differences and report to the court tomorrow. The ruling comes in response to the writ petition filed by one of the dalit leaders, Raja Dhale, claiming to be the elections president of the ten factions.
He has challenged the Election Commission's order empowering a ten-member presidium of the dalit leaders to select official candidates for the coming Lok Sabha elections. The Election Commission had ordered that candidature forms will be signed by six of the ten dalit factions.
Raja Dhale, however, did not agree with this arrangement. He stated that he was the elected authority to finalise the party's candidates.
However, the division bench of Justice Ashok Agarwal and S Radhakrishnan have asked the RPI's warring groups to settle their internal differences, especially keeping in mind the coming elections.
The High Court suggested that presidium
members can draw lots and choose three representatives.
