Injuries dog Churchill

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MARGAO, January 22: Just when Churchill Brothers were beginning to see the light at the end of this season's long and gloomy tunnel, the team finds itself scourged by injuries.

The biggest blow has been Nigerean striker Chibuzor Nwekanma's ankle injury which may rule him out of tomorrow's National Football League (NFL) match against Goan rivals Dempo at the Fatorda Stadium, here.

They may be compelled to sideline defender Emeko Okeke, another Nigerean in the squad who also has hurt his ankle. Kasif Jamal (injured knee), Mario Soares (hamstring) and Hercules Gomes (muscle pull) are also doubtful starters.

Another big blow is the groin injury suffered by Iraqi mid-fielder Bassim Yonnan who has been doing some good work for Churchill Brothers on the right.

Dempo's euphoria following a stupendous fightback to down FC Kochin 5-3 in their last match amy be tainted by the suspension of Brazilian mid-fielders Joso Soares who picked up a red card and Marcello Antonio with two bootings. Dempo are not very comfortably placed at the moment.

Seventh in the table does not do their potential any justice and the think-tank headed by coach Brazilian Francisco Gonsalves and manager Custodio Almeida must desperately want victory tomorrow to lift the side to the League's upper zone.
