Kharar SDM furnishes details of govt action over MC staff

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
KHARAR, January 22: Avtar Chand Sharma, SDM and Municipal Council Administrator, Kharar, has denied recent press reports of "administrative inefficiency" vis a vis problems of Municipal Council employees.

In a press release, Sharma referred to his meeting with the unions of both the Kharar Municipal employees and Ropar district municipal employees in the presence of the Kharar Municipal Council executive officer and other civic leaders, and claimed that all but one of the unions' 28 demands were accepted. The 28th demand has been referred to the state Department of Local Government.

He appealed to the municipal employees to resume work as their demands had been accepted. Continuance of the strike would not be in the public interest, he said.

Meanwhile the fast of Kharar Municipal Employees' Union members, Amar Nath, Avtar Singh and Pardeep Kumar entered its seventh day. Heaps of garbage have accumulated throughout the town and drains are overflowing.
