Railway clerk booked for assault on couple

MUMBAI, January 23: A couple was assaulted at Charni road station late on Friday evening by three Western Railway booking clerks after an arguement broke out over inadequate change. Ajit Dedhia (35) and Vijaya Dedhia (30) were assaulted by booking clerk Praful Valvi when they walked away after a verbal exchange over one rupee change.

Valvi, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was joined by two other colleagues who slapped and hit the couple. While Ajit was hit above the eye, his wife sustained minor hand injuries.

The Railway police, who intervened and detained Valvi after an angry crowd of around 300 persons gathered and threatened violence. The two other booking clerks fled in the melee. Valvi was sent to the JJ hospital for an alcohol test and the couple have lodged an FIR with the railway police.
