A dilemma is born in Germany

ASSOCIATED PRESS
BERLIN, Jan 23: Germany's Roman Catholic Bishops may have a problem: The government wants them to continue abortion counselling. And the Vatican reportedly wants them to stop.

The quandary -A key topic this week in German Media-stems from the large role churches play in Germany society. From kindergartens to nursing homes, social systems for years have been church-sponsored.Church sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, say Pope John Paul II will soon send a letter to the bishops asking them to stop counselling women about pregnancy prevention and termination at the nation's hospitals, mostly run by the Catholic and Lutheran churches. Politicians including Kohl, a Catholic are urging the bishops to resist.
