Congress sulks as Laloo Yadav releases RJD's first list
A proposed electoral truck in Bihar between the Congress and Laloo Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is now unlikely to take off. This is due to the announcement of a list of 39 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls by the RJD, in contravention of its earlier statement of releasing a list only after an agreement with the Congress.
Vajpayee kicks off UP poll drive on stability note
The BJP is now looking to attract voters with promises of a stable government. This, at least, seems to be the impression derived from the speech made by party leader Atal Behari Vajpayee while kicking off the BJP's electoral campaign in Uttar Pradesh yesterday. Vajpayee said that unless a stable goverment was formed, the political sitution in India would still be crisis-ridden. Vajpayee, however, skirted contentious issues like Ayodhya, Bofors and Sonia Gandhi's foray into politics.

BJP petitions EC against JD
The BJP, in an ironical move, has accused the Janata Dal of harbouring communal intentions. In a complaint filed with the Election Commission yesterday, the BJP claimed that the JD was seeking particulars pertaining to the castes and sub-caste of voters in a booklet released by the party.
A weakened post-Mamata PCC plagued with dissent
The West Bengal unit of the Congress is facing a major crisis as it gears up for the Lok Sabha polls. The main threat to the party comes from the Trinamul Congress, the party floated by rebel Congress leader, Mamata Banerjee. Another worrisome matter for the Congress is the dissension within the party over the nominees for the polls. The situation may, however, be retrieved if the party's top brass relents to the increasing clamour for a patch-up with Mamata.

BJP lures State SP chief, but Shiv Sena benefits
The Congress, on Friday, received another setback in its preparations for the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. The latest blow for the Congress came in the form of the defection of Rajaram Salvi, president of the Maharashtra wing of the Samajwadi Party, to the BJP. The move was doubly detrimental for the Congress as it had an electoral alliance with the SP and Salvi was nominated to contest the Thane seat in Maharashtra. His defection, has, however, left the field clear for the Shiv Sena-BJP combine in Thane.
Sena's tiger now prowls on the Internet
Close on the heels of the BJP launching a website of its own comes the news that one of its poll partners has also decided to toe the BJP line. The Shiv Sena, the BJP's partner in Maharashtra, on Friday launched its own website -- www.Shivsena.Org, a move expected to take its campaign into cyberspace.
