Ambedkar, Naik file nominations

MUMBAI, January 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Ram Naik, Shiv Sena's Mohan Rawle and Republican Party of India candidate Prakash Ambedkar today filed nominations for the forthcoming 12th Lok Sabha elections.

Naik, who will contest from north Mumbai, filed his nomination with the returning officer at Bandra, while Rawle who will contest from north-central Mumbai, filed his papers at the Old Customs House. Prakash Ambedkar filed his nomination from Akola constituency.

Both Naik and Rawle are sitting MPs, and Naik will be contesting his sixth term as an MP. He was accompanied by Sena spokesperson Subhash Desai and members of the Legislative Assembly from his constituency, apart from party corporators and workers. The last day for filing of nominations is February 4 and they will be scrutinised on February 6 while the last day for withdrawing nominations is February 7.

A press release issued by the state government on late Wednesday night said that by 6.30 pm, two candidates have filed nominationsfrom Ratnagiri while one nomination each for Kopargaon, Karad, Pandharpur, Aurangabad, Thane, Nagpur, Chimur, Amaravati and Buldhana.
