MoST to take up dollar-linked cargo tariffs with industry

NEW DELHI, February 4: Having faced opposition from the Tariff Authority for Major Ports (TAMP), the Ministry of Surface Transport (MoST) has decided to take up the controversial issue of linking cargo-related charges to the dollar with industry. It has written to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), seeking its views on dollar-linked cargo tariffs. The move was turned down shotdown by the tariff authority in mid-December.

MoST officials said the matter will be taken up by CII's Working Group on Ports . "The opinion of the Indian industry will be crucial because they are the actual users of the 11 major ports. The working group has already been a great help in formulating guidelines for JVs These norms are now awaiting approval from the Union Cabinet," they said.
