Eight hurt as BEST, luxury bus collide

February 4: Eight persons were injured after a luxury bus had a head-on collision with a BEST bus and toppled over at Colaba early on Wednesday morning. One person has sustained serious injuries.

A best spokesperson said the single decker bus (route no 20 Ltd) had left Backbay bus depot when the luxury bus driver lost control and hit the front of the BEST bus. The luxury bus then spun out of control, crashed into an electric pole and flipped over on its left side. The incident occurred at around 6 am at the junction of Maharishi Karve and Madame Cama road. One of the seriously injured passengers of the luxury bus, Krishna D Pawse (55), was admitted to St George hospital. He lost his left leg and was later transferred to Telkulkar hospital, Lamington Road. Seven other injured were given first aid and discharged. The Cuffe Parade police station have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the luxury bus driver.
