Red-tape hits KVIC pensioners

ENS ECONOMIC BUREAU
MUMBAI, FEB 5: Thousands of pensioners of the Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) are left in the lurch following the management's decision to seek Industry Ministry's permission before disbursing the Fifth Pay Commission arrears.

Significantly, the management has already distributed the arrears for the existing staff without any authorisation from the ministry.

When contacted, KVIC officials say that they have forwarded a letter to the ministry which would be cleared in the next 15-20 days. "We have sought the permission from the ministry before disbursing the amount as we are a autonomous organisation," said an official. "As soon as we get the ministry's nod, we will start disbursing the arrears," officials add.

Officials could not explain why the arrears for the existing employees were cleared in a lightening speed.
