Sonia to step up Congress campaign

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, February 5: The next 10 days may prove to be most important for the Congress, when it unleashes Sonia Gandhi in her most intense form yet: forty nine election meetings in 12 States.

The whirlwind tour will begin tomorrow morning with a public speech at Lakhimpur in Assam and end on February 15 in Nagpur. An election meeting is scheduled for February 13 in New Delhi but the venue is yet to be decided.

On February 15, Sonia will lend a helping hand to two Congress stalwarts -- Arjun Singh and Kamal Nath -- campaigning in their respective constituencies of Hoshangabad and Chhindwara.

Party president Sitaram Kesri will not be sharing the dais with Sonia during the third phase of her campaign. But campaign committee chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad was quick to point out that the programme for ``other senior leaders'' was being chalked out and should be finalised in a day or two.

So far, said Azad, Sonia had so far addressed 30 public rallies throughout the country. She would be campaigning through theelectronic media also, he added.
