Work on TAPS 3 and 4 to start soon

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA  
FEBRUARY 5: Work will commence shortly on the construction of India's first two 500 mw capacity nuclear power plants at Tarapore Atomic Power Station, which has the potential to generate 1000 mw electricity.

G R Srinivasan, project director of Nuclear Power Corporation said tenders have already been floated for ground excavation work, and the contract will be finalised by April this year. The actual work is expected to begin by May.

He added, of the two new units, known as TAPS three and four, unit four will be completed first by 2005. Subsequently, after a gap of six to nine months, unit three will also be completed. The Central government has assured the NPC Rs 4.55 crore for 1997-98.
