Vajpayee takes a swipe at Cong

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
BHIWANI, February 7: The Congress withdrew support to Gujral Government as it feared that those who received kickbacks in the Bofors gun deal would be revealed, BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Atal Bihari Vajpayee charged here today.

Addressing a mammoth election rally at Rohtak and here, he said if Gujral had remained in power for some time more, "Congress would have been thoroughly exposed in the Bofors deal".

He charged the Congress of withdrawing support to Deve Gowda as their "scam tainted leaders would have been exposed". Ridiculing Sonia Gandhi's claim that only Congress could provide a stable and clean Government, Vajpayee said, "Perhaps she does not remember that Rajiv Gandhi-led Government was defeated in 1989 on the issue of corruption."

In a scathing attack on the United Front (UF), Vajpayee said it preferred to take the support of the Congress, which had a bad track record of withdrawing support at its convenience.

He blamed the Congress and the UF for delaying passage of the Lok PalBill under the pretext that the Prime Minister should not come under its purview. The BJP leader said his party, if voted to power, would pass the Lok Pal Bill and it would also bring under it the Prime Minister. He said his party would provide employment to one crore youth.
