Hindustani Sishyas: Of Vedas, politics and a new dawn
The party may not emerge as a political force in all the 200 seats it is contesting, but the Hindustani sishyas of Maharshi Mahesh Yogi are all set to re-establish Vedic ideals in the land of the Vedas as they prepare themselves to face the ensuing general elections against all odds. Conflict-free politics and a problem-free administration at all levels. The promises sound high, but you cannot ignore them when they come from his holiness, the Maharshi himself.
Blair stands by Clinton during torrid media grilling
Anglo-american friendship scaled new heights on February 6 as British Prime Minister Tony Blair took a leaf out of Hillary Clinton's book and stood by his man - beleaguered US President Bill Clinton. Clinton and Blair weathered the heavy artillery rolled out by the Fourth Estate despite White House efforts to muzzle the media.

Deve Gowda desperately seeks sympathy in Vokkaliga heartland
The former prime minister Deve Gowda is currently involved in invoking Kannada pride and to drive home the point that he has been wronged. His main contention is that he has been wronged not only by "Mir Sadiq" Sitaram Kesri alone but also by those of the likes of his perennial tormentor Ramakrishna Hegde. The former Prime Minister is now selling himself as the son of the soil whose work for Karnataka has not got the acknowledgement that it deserves. The attempt is clearly to play on emotions and evoke sympathy.

377 left in fray in State's 48 seats
There has been a record decline in the number of candidates contesting the 48 constituencies in Maharashtra in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections to be held on February 22 and 28. Only 377 candidates, including 24 women, are left in the fray as compared to 1,065 candidates in 1996. Currently a total of 103 out of 480 candidates withdrew their nominations.
Mahanta breathes easy but headache has just begun
The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is confident that the Governor's decision to reject the CBI's request is likely to help Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and his party in the election. This is mainly because Mahanta has been cleared in the LoC scam. The AGP is currently happy as allegations have now been heaped on the Governor, S K Sinha, instead of Mahanta who isn't in the line of fire anymore. However, AGP's joy is likely to be shortlived.
