Davenport stuns Hingis for title

TOKYO, February 8: Lindsay Davenport of the United States, the world's No. 2 tennis player, beat top-ranked Martina Hingis of Switzerland 6-3, 6-3, in the Toray Pan Pacific Open final today.

Davenport is now 4-5 overall against Hingis. Davenport served well and attacked on Hingis' second serve, breaking for 4-3 and again in the ninth game in the first set.

Hingis began impressive sharpshooting broke at love for 2-3 in the second set.

But it was too late for the swiss teenager as Davenport quickly regained form and broke back for 4-2 and held her serve for 5-2.

Kafelnikov meets Enqvist

MARSEILLE (FRANCE): Sweden's Thomas Enqvist will meet Yevgeny Kafelnikov of Russia in the final of the ATP Marseille Indoors Tennis tournament after winning their respective semi-final matches.

Sixth-seeded Enqvist defeated second-seeded Richard Krajicek of Netherlands 6-3, 6-7 (1-7), 6-3. Kafelnikov overcame Sweden's Mikael Tillstrom, winning 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

In doubles, Mark Keil and TJ Middleton of theUS beat Kafelnikov and Daniel Vacek 7-5, 6-3. They will meet Don Johnson and Francisco Montana, who defeated Julian Alonso of Spain and Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil.
