  Cache of ammunition seized after blast in TN
A large quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered by the police just after the blast at Saliyamangalam in Tamil Nadu in which four persons were killed and two others injured. The police also seized incriminating documents and a sum of Rs 30,000 from the debris along with three volt batteries. Villagers suspect the hand of Abdul Kader, a member of an Islamic Fundamentalist Organisation.
  More US war planes head for Gulf
The United States ordered more war planes to the Gulf region while Britain said a military assault on Iraq was inevitable unless President Saddam Hussein backed down in the row over UN weapons inspections. It has ordered 19 combat planes and 23 support aircraft to the region, bringing the total number of US military aircraft there to almost 370 in number.

Over 250 dead in fresh Afghan earthquake
Some 250 people were killed and 50 others injured in an aftershock that hit the same area of northern Afghanistan on February 8 where thousands may have died in a mid-week earthquake. The aftershock was concentrated on the remote Rustaq district where the initial disaster had struck. The total death toll is estimated to be about 4,400.
Democrats back Clinton in new Starr wars
New opinion polls released have shown soaring job approval ratings for President Bill Clinton as top democrats rallied behind him in an attack on the White House sex scandal prosecutor. US News and World Report gave Clinton a 66-percent job approval rating, that number plummeted to 42% when people were asked for their opinion of him as an individual.

Imelda bids for presidency, vows "decency"
Imelda Marcos, who has been convicted of graft and faces 12 years in jail, formally filed her bid for the Philippine presidency, vowing to bring "decency" to the office, along with the Marcos wealth to ease the country's economic slump. She said that she is seeking the presidency in the May elections to ensure that the Marcos wealth through the Marcos foundation will go directly to the Filipino people.
Saamna faces action for `paid news'
Satara district returning officer Vandana Khullar initiated action against Saamna the mouthpiece of ruling Shiv Sena party in the State and four other newspapers for violating People's Representation Act, 1951. In a stern action against the "paid news" , Khullar had registered offences against Saamna, Pudhari, Belgaum Tarun Bharat, Aikya and Gramodhar newspapers.
