Vintage car rally today

PUNE: The nation's longest ever car rally, the Vintage Car Fiesta will be flagged off from the Express Towers tomorrow. The rally will cover a record distance of 190 km between Mumbai and Pune. More than 30 cars manufactured before 1940, 25 classic cars built between 1941-1960 and over 20 motorcycles are in the fray. The event will be a run-up for the over 300 km national rally to be held in January next year.

The oldest car in the fiesta organised by The Indian Express and Vintage and Classical Car Club of India (VCCCI) is a 1919 Fiat.

Loyola champs

PONDICHERRY: Loyola College, Chennai and St Saviours College, Aluva, bagged the men's and women's titles respectively in the All-India inter-collegiate baskeball tournament.

In their last league encounters, Loyola defeated St Joseph, Tiruchirapalli 57-30 and St Saviours beat Vimala College, Thrissur, 42-27.

Anna University, Chennai finished second defeating Annamalai University 52-40. Though Loyola and Anna havetwo wins and a loss each, Loyola was adjudged winner on better quotient.

Jail sports

NEW DELHI: The prisoners of Tihar jail today came out the confines of their cells to play a cricket match against Sports Authority of India and lost by 45 runs.

Today's match was the culmination of the three-day first ever Tihar Invitation Cup tournament, introduced by the jail authorities as part of prison reforms.
