4 Dawood gangsters get 5-yr sentence

MUMBAI, FEBRUARY 13: Designated TADA judge PK Chavre today sentenced four Dawood Ibrahim gang members to five years imprisonment for possession of arms in a notified area.

On December 1, 1991, six persons were arrested from Dahisar for possessing fire arms. Of these, Atul Rane was killed by rival gang members after being released on bail. Gridhar Makram, charged with possession of nine cartridges, was today acquitted as the cartridges were not live. Avdhut Desai, Mandar Dangi, Hemant Kantak, and Kikaram Chowdhury were sentenced to five years and Rs 500 each under section 5 of TADA, along with a one year imprisonment and Rs 100 under section 3/25 of the Arms Act.
