Present PSI's records before Gundewar: Cong

The Congress party has called for the submission of various documents pertaining to suspended Police Sub Inspector M Y Kadam of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) before the Gundewar Commission.

Congress counsel B A Desai in his submissions stated that Kadam was under the direct supervision and control of Vasant Ingle, the then Superintendent of Police, SRPF. In his application, Desai stated that Ingle had noticed that Kadam was against persons belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe and had made a report against Kadam for misconduct in the regard. He further states that following a representation made by the Republican Party of India under the Prevention of Atrocities Act against the SC/ST to various authorities including Ingle, action was taken under the Bombay Police Act against Kadam by Ingle and he was then suspended.

Later, a detailed report of the action taken was sent to the Director General of Police, Inspector General SRPF and other officials. However, the suspension order wasrevoked by the DGP on the recommendation of the IG and Kadam was transferred to Pune.

Desai submitted that the above mentioned reports are important documents which would serve to point out the conduct of Kadam. The Mumbai police have been asked to file their reply before the Commission on Monday February 16, 1998.
